Gutenberg is WordPress’ new editor and it’s awesome. Built with a JavaScript and it allows you to create and edit your posts and/or pages on the front-end. Your post will look similar as if you were previewing the site. The elements in this editor do not require reloading even when publishing. It’s block-based which helps break things into sections. It’s very fast and responsive and no coding is required.

Here are some of the features we liked:

  • Publish without reloading, this can save you a lot of time, especially when you need to make constant changes.
  • Each block has a settings panel on the right-hand side that contains specific options for the particular block (Text, Images etc..). All blocks have the ability to change its type.

  • Image Block | You can enlarge an image full width making it a header with a simple click. From the options panel you can do the following:
    • Add Alt-Text
    • Add a caption
    • Control the Image size from thumbnail, medium, large & full size
    • Set a custom link
    • Add a class
  • Cover Block |  You can enlarge an image full width making it a header with a simple click. From the options panel you can do the following:
    • Make background fixed or responsive via a toggle
    • Select an overlay color from predefined colors or the color wheel
    • Control the opacity of the background

  • Text Blocks | From the options panel you can do the following:

    • Color settings: Background color and Text Color

    • Add a class
  • Gallery Block | Select or upload a number of images to create a gallery. From the options panel you can do the following:
    • Choose the number of columns (up to 99 but not recommended for obvious reasons)
    • Based on the number of columns chosen and the number of images selected you will see a cropped grid with equal spacing being generated. (unless the crop images toggle is set to off)
    • Links can be set to the media file or the attachment page
    • Add a class
  • Heading Block | From the options panel you can do the following:
    • Set the heading levels from H1 – H6
    • Text Alignment

  • Shortcode Block | These can be placed inside any pages or posts
  • Embed Block | You can embed from anywhere especially from Youtube, Twitter, Facebook & Instagram…etc

    • Regular or Striped style
    • Select if you want the table width to be fixed or responsive
    • Add a class
  • Buttons Block | This is a new feature and it’s very flexible. From the options panel you can do the following:
